Following the sentencing, senior investigating officer Det Insp Michelle Thurgood, from West Midlands Police, said: “The absolute tragedy of Cody’s death is just how avoidable it was.”
She said it was “almost incomprehensible” that Cody Fisher should be killed because he had accidentally bumped into Remy Gordon.
She also urged people to support the force in its efforts to reduce knife crime.
Directing her comments at parents, guardians and teachers, she said: “I implore you to please talk to the young people you care for about Cody’s story, and how numerous lives have been ruined because of the use of a knife.”
The force area has the highest rate of knife crime in England, including London.
