At least seven aid workers have been killed in Gaza, in
what their charity founder said was an Israeli air strike.
Chef and World Central Kitchen (WCK) founder José Andrés called
on the Israeli government “to stop this indiscriminate killing”.
Gaza’s Hamas-run media office also blamed Israel.
A journalist working for the BBC in Gaza has seen the bodies of
three international aid workers and a Palestinian driver, recovered from the
site of the alleged air strike. Foreign passports were also shown.
WCK says the killed aid workers people are from the UK, Australia
and Poland, as well a dual US-Canadian national and Palestinians.
The charity also says they were attacked
after leaving a warehouse in Deir al-Balah where they had unloaded more
than 100 tons of humanitarian food aid brought to Gaza via ship.
The strike cannot be verified independently at the moment and
details are still emerging.
Israel’s military has responded to the attack, saying it is conducting
a thorough review at the highest level to understand the circumstances of this
“tragic incident”.
